“Jeeves and the Dog McIntosh”

(original transmission date: 30/5/1965)

“Jeeves and the Dog McIntosh” is the opening episode of the first series of The World of Wooster and was adapted by Michael Mills. It was one of two episodes to be shown to Wodehouse in his Long Island home by Frank Muir shortly after broadcast. It is considered lost.

Synopsis

“Ian Carmichael's performance was rich in comic business, with his monocle, his stick, his eyes; shaving, combing his lank locks to transform last night's wreck into today's man-about-town. Dennis Price was the imperturbable and ingenious Jeeves to the perfectly raised eyebrow. Tracy Reed managed to be charming and scheming at the same time. Peter Stephens was a caricature American, and Addison Fordyce epitomized with one line the poisonous child.”
